Thyroid and ear pain help

I started have ear pain and neck tenderness , on my left side only, 3 days ago. I went in to my PCP today worried I had an ear infection. She said I had fluid in my ear then checked my thyroid and said the left side was inflamed.

She mentioned thyroiditis and asked if I had been sick recently. I haven't been sick since January. She said the thyroiditis could be from a virus I currently have but other than the pain I feel totally fine. No congestion or fever (as of yet anyway). She said to try OTC meds to come back if I develop a fever. As for pain, come back in 3 weeks if it's still present and she'll order labs and an ultrasound.

The pain in my ear sort of radiates and my neck is so tender and aching. She told me to take ibuprofen or Tylenol but neither are working. Anyone with experience have other suggestions? Thanks!
