So you just got your GoPro and you want to show us video of what you shot, this is how you get upvotes.

We've had some complaints on people being merciless with the downvote arrow in this subreddit but as a GoPro enthusiast, mod, and generally nice guy I think the downvotes are somewhat deserved.

So how do you win us over here? It's not easy but here are some general ideas.

  • Avoid music used in official or viral GoPro videos

If your video has the song Sail, Bodies by Drowning pool, Cracks begin to show, etc chances are someone will start your video, hear that song for the millionth time and probably just close it.

  • Actually edit your video

No long cuts. If you have a cut that is longer than 10 seconds and isn't a time lapse or something interesting is going on, it's boring. Watch a movie and count the seconds for each cut. You'll have to start over often.

  • Make sure your audio is normalized

You may have to Google this but the general idea is to avoid "RIP Headphone users" comments. You want your audio to be the same volume, and not extremely loud in the beginning.

  • Did I mention no long cuts?

Seriously, trim the fat, then trim it more.

  • Realize that even if you do all this you may still get downvoted

Please don't be butthurt if your video doesn't get a lot of votes. This subreddit is cruel to an extent because we all see the videos coming from GoPro themselves and when we see someone with a head mount mowing their lawn at 60fps and the video is a 15 minute cut we don't hold back. I can't stress this enough, it's difficult to make a captivating video, but don't give up.
