Background checking for resume lies

In my current job I'm a junior employee and since I'm a generalist i always do projects outside my job description and above my pay grade.

For 2 months, I was applying for senior and more specialized roles in other companies and i could not even get a single initial interview.

I got desperate so i lied in my resume and put my current job as senior instead of junior, i started getting multiple HR interviews per week, then i had an interview and testing with the hiring managers and convinced them of my experience with the role I'm applying for. My work experience and skills are real, but the job title is not.

The question is, during background checks, do companies verify the job title and salary range of the candidate? Can i be terminated if they find the truth after I signed my job offer?
