My mom treats me differently after being married.
I got married like a year and a half ago. I'm 26 my husband is 28. My mom and I were like best friends before I got married. Right before my nikkah she started being very overbearing for the first time in my life. I remember her giving me a Hadith book with the pages opened to the part where it's discussed sex and the rules of intercourse. Her saying "you're not (my name) anymore, your a new person now." lol I get what she means but it was a bit... scary how serious she made it seem. Before I was getting married she never said anything negative to me but then started to heavily critique my appearance, my weight, my hair, my skin, the clothes I wore, any choices I made. I boil it down — even to this day, maternal concern. I was born in the west but she was born back home, where I guess men are like pedestalized and you gotta do whatever it is you got to do to keep a man and survive in society. Anyways she helped me so much so I just went with the waves until my wedding was over.
Fast forward to like a year later my mom is just being straight up rude to me randomly. Like if I send her a picture of my husband and I she hyper focused on my flaws, like if I have a pimple, she comments about any fluctuations in my weight. My hair. Mind you, I think im pretty alright. Like I've never been fat, I just have my boated days. I have good skin most of the time, my hair is another story though. I wear hijab, but I do take care of my hair every night. It just looks crazy until I do my 5 min routine which I usually skip in the mornings because I am a hijabi. I know it's not the best but I make sure it looks right when I'm chilling at home. Anyways my husband is attracted to me and that's all that matters. He likes my curls and doesn't like when I flat iron it, but my mom begs to differ.
Nowadays my mom.. it feels like she can't even look at me. We make eye contact and she looks away. When we talk I see one side of her mouth sharply go up in disgust like she sees something she doesn't like. When I said why do you keep doing that to you face, she straightens it out and says what do you mean, I'm not doing anything. But I see it and feel it and it seems very deep rooted for her. I feel so uncomfortable around her these days. Like I'm in eggshells. But I miss her how she was before.
