[TOMT][Podcast][2020s] Father Tells Story of Daughters Illness, Death

Pending

I was in the car when I heard the story so I am almost certain this was a podcast. I want to think it was on Revisionist History but I couldn't find anything when searching the episode list. I don't believe it was an interview style but more of just the father telling his story.

Some other podcasts I listen to are The Daily, Armchair Expert, Dateline NBC, Joe Rogan.

Here are some notes:

  • I listened to this within the past few months (though it coould have come out earlier).

  • The father is a professor at an American university.

  • Daughter has a significant medical event as a child. I think heart attack but could be storke, seizure, etc.

  • Doctors tell the parents it is unlikely she will live.

  • Dad stands by daughter holding her hand. Asks daughter to squeeze his hand and she does. Doctors are puzzled.

  • Daughter ends up surviving.

  • Has another significant medical event at some point in the next few years. Survives again.

  • Father, mother, their two daughters, and duaghter's boyfriend go on family vacation. Daughter makes a comment like "this has been the best day of my life." She ends up passing away that night in her sleep of massive heart attack (or whatever medical issue she had).

  • Father talks about retreating to a cabin on a lake for several weeks/months after daughter dies.

  • He tells of a morning when he gets on a kayak and paddles out very far and basically decides to die.

  • He hears daughter's voice telling him she is ok and he needs to move on.

This was a beautiful sotry of a father's love and loss. I'd love to listen to it again. PLEASE HELP ME.
