How did school treat you before finding out/never finding out you had ADHD?

Questions/Advice

I never got diagnosed in school for my ADHD but I remember it was a huge struggle not knowing. Especially being a girl, as often faculty and other adults/guardians/parental figures have a harder time noticing it in girls since we (tend to) show more inattentive symptoms which are harder to spot. For that reason I was either offered the wrong solutions to my issues in school or made to feel bad about myself and wonder where I went wrong. I would often find myself in meetings with teachers to discuss getting back on track with homework in strict ways. I would get in trouble and miss fun things for not completing work on time. I would get embarrassed by teachers in front of other students for my mistakes or confronted with consequences that wouldn’t help my issues. Such as loss of privileges for being on my devices too much at home when that wasn’t the underlying issue. What happened to you in school if you were not diagnosed as a kid? How did it affect you? I ask this to spread awareness of this issue that we look deeper into the reasons a child acts the way they do. It’s not always intentional and it’s not always about being lazy or even disorganized.
