Bachibros I need YOUR HELP
I'm a university student and this semester I'm writing an academic paper on Kagurabachi. This spring, I'm also going to be submitting this paper as a presentation for my college's liberal arts symposium (where students and professors get to share their research), so I can advertise peak fiction to people at my school.
Because this is an academic setting, I'm analyzing the official English translations from SJ/published volumes, but I know that last week's chapter mistranslated "Magatsumi" as "Malediction" which mean VERY different things in the context of the world. I want to make sure that I'm analyzing the story as closely to the author's vision as possible, and I don't want some John Werry bullshit sullying my paper.
Can you guys help me out and tell me about any similar instances of mistranslation? If possible, please include chapter number, page number, and/or an image of where it shows up.
If it's not obvious (like it is with the magatsumi/maledection example), some cultural context on why the translation is inaccurate and a proposed "better" translation would also be super useful.
If I do end up using anything that you guys give me, I'll be sure to give you a spot in my Works Cited page and on my presentation slides in the spring. I'll probably also post my paper and slides in the subreddit once they're done.
Thanks bros 🙏.
