Am I being too forward? Do I have any hope?

Advice Needed

(I’m trying to keep this slightly vague out of a fear they may see this arghh omg)

It’s been 4 weeks of uni and the moment I (18F) met my crush (18M) I instantly felt a gravitation towards him. I approached him on our first day and we spent the entire rest of the day talking with each other.

As new students where everyone formed their cliques, we stuck together in class, spent our breaks together, and went on more walks just chatting. The more time we spend together the more I’m assured of my feelings for him.

But I feel as though I’m showing too much interest in him, showing so much curiosity about his hobbies, interests, etc. He feels comfortable enough to respond at length (like REALLY yap) but only occasionally re-asks me the same questions about my life. This is what sort of marks the nature of our conversations. The balance feels so off, and I worry that this might set him off or he already feels smothered and is trying to tell me subtly that he doesn’t care as much about me as I do about him.

I’m worried that my hope is colored by the fact he feels comfortable enough to spend the school days with me; that I’ve mistaken comfort for interest.

I also fear the past is repeating. I had a crush on my guy best friend, where he simply showed comfort in being with me but I developed feelings. I never confessed but at the back of my mind I had hope because we would call late into the night, talk everyday, spend time together - and I interpreted that as some sort of signal when it was merely just friendship. He went on to date other girls.

I’m not the most attractive person, so my hope in both scenarios is really naive. I’ve been made fun of by guy friends for my looks and genuinely accept that I’m not attractive enough to be a romantic prospect.

And despite mentally registering all of this, my pining persists… AAAAA don’t know what to do and just wanted to vent.
