good day people

so i got these pair of two 5 string soapbar style bass pickup, idk what brand, i asked the seller and they just said it's OEM, so i just went to slap this on to my bass. the problem is that it dont work, i know for a fact the white wire is the hot, bare is ground, and red goes to the battery but it dont work, no sound at all, i tried rewiring it but this time with a preamp, it worked but it's clipping so much that i had to pull the volume knobs to almost zero to get a usable and barely clipping audio signal. now for the help me part, how do i wire this without the bass preamp? what kind of pots should i use? i have bunch of extra 10k, 50k, and 100k pots here from my old guitar upgrades. also is there a special type of witchcraft i need to perform? coz i first wired this using my two 50k pots for volume and tone only using the usual volume-tone wiring diagram but it just dont work, also for some reason it's buzzing so much but not when wired into the bass preamp which is so weird. it sounds really decent, the problem is i just cant use it with the bass preamp coz yeah sounds busted, i also tried lowering the signal from my focusrite scarlett coz i thought it might help, no it's still clipping. also yes i dont have the instrument button engaged in the focusrite scarlett coz if i do, all i can see in the audio input is red light. i only press that if my guitar or bass has passive pickup. also i already asked the seller if they know anything about the wiring and they just told me "oh we just sell things, we dont know anything about wiring".

anyway thanks for helping 🙏
