AML and risk-score in crypto
I want to point something out.
Every exchange has a unique way of handling AML risk upon deposit. On centralized exchanges, your wallet is scanned immediately. If there is too high a taint %, your funds are usually frozen for review right away.
KYC is required anyway, but it's actually the AML score that allows deposits to go through smoothly or get stuck. And the threshold can be different. Some exchanges are OK with 2–3% taint, while others may flag you at 1%.
Also consider: decentralized exchanges are not a free pass either. While the DEX itself will not freeze you, bridges, aggregators, and other external providers each may implement the same filters. In those cases, if your wallet has a high risk score, it may just fail. So decentralized trading doesn't equal no risk.
I have a habit of checking the risk score on my wallet before doing any significant transfer. There are AML bots and sites that can compute them for you. It's sometimes crazy when you see how old transactions can "taint" your wallet more than you probably expect.
This is NOT about avoiding laws - it's just about not being caught off guard when your funds are frozen.
If there are any of you who have had experience with this, or know reputable tools for risk check - feel free to drop below in the comments, I would love to discuss.
