AITA for not having any female friends?
I’m a 34M living in Germany, and I’ve recently realized something that makes me feel both lonely and guilty that I don’t have a single female friend.
My entire circle is made up of men, and while I value them, it feels like something essential is missing. There’s a warmth, a softness, a feminine touch in life that I’ve never really had access to outside of romantic relationships.
The irony is that my last relationship ended because of how differently we saw the future. I proposed, she rejected it, and said she didn’t want marriage or kids even though she used to talk about babies all the time.
After the breakup, we still shared the apartment (I pay for everything). I tried to be generous told her she could stay rent-free, use my car, eat my food as long as things stayed civil. But instead of peace, I get constant nitpicking and little fights about trivial things like the thermostat or dishes.
It leaves me drained, and it makes me wonder if maybe I’m the problem. Between that dynamic and growing up with a narcissistic mom who trained me to equate love with servitude, I don’t think I ever learned how to build healthy bonds with women.
I want that balance in my life a female friend to talk to, laugh with, and see the world differently through but I worry I’ll either come across as too needy or too closed-off.
