I have a question about Lokah

Hi guys, I'm new here. I have a doubt from Lokah chapter one. During the flashback scene, Vijay Raghavan says that this city (Bangalore) was a forest before and narrates Neeli's story as a story that happened in that forest. When Kalyani and Naslen walks to collect blood, they see the same/similar tree that was in Neeli's village. Also towards the end the guy who looks like the king also gets spawned in Bangalore itself. So if the movie is about Kerala folklore, why did they chose to show it as it's happening in Bangalore or am I missing something?
