How I used iPhone face capture (Live Link Face) to drive shape key animation in Blender
I’ve been experimenting with facial mocap for Blender, and one challenge I faced was taking data from Live Link Face and making it usable directly inside Blender. By default, it’s not straightforward to retarget that data to shape keys.
To make this workflow easier, I created a small Blender add-on that converts the Live Link Face capture into usable shape key animation. Basically, it takes the raw ARKit blendshape data and maps it to your character’s shape keys automatically.

This is useful for: – animators who want quick facial animation without manual keyframing – indie game devs building real-time characters – VTuber or content creators who need expressive facial animation
I’d love to hear how others handle face mocap in Blender. Do you usually retarget ARKit data manually, or use other pipelines? If anyone’s curious about trying the add-on, I can share more details in the comments.
