Do I still need an Affidavit of Support for Vietnam trip if I’m 23 and using savings + gift money?
Hey guys, need some advice.
I’m f22 years old, still a student with no job yet. On February 6, 2026, I’ll be traveling to Saigon with my friends for 5 days and 4 nights. We’re all adults, 22 and above.
By the time of the trip, I’ll have around 40–50k pocket money. That amount comes from 23k birthday money from my dad, 10k birthday money from my mom and her fiancé, and about 22k from my own savings since I’ve been putting away 1k per week since September.
So technically, I can cover my trip, but the money is from allowance and birthday gifts. My parents are already separated, and I’m not really close with my dad aside from financial support, so I’d rather not ask him for an Affidavit of Support if it’s not really required. My mom is a stay-at-home mom, so she can’t issue one either.
Going there for a short vacation. I’ll be bringing my passport, roundtrip ticket, hotel booking, school ID and enrollment certificate, and my pocket money (around 40–50k split between cash and bank/GCash).
Has anyone here traveled abroad as a student using savings and gift money? Did immigration ask you for an AOS, or was it fine without one?
Thanks in advance!
