Opening a Pilates studio — looking for advice
Hi everyone 👋
I’ve worked in tech/finance for many years, but in the last couple of years I’ve developed a real passion for Pilates. It’s had such a big impact on both my mindset and my body that I keep wondering: what if I turned this passion into something bigger?
I’m now seriously considering opening a boutique Pilates studio. I’ve started a Pilates Instructor certification — not because I plan to teach full time, but to better understand the practice and what it takes to run a successful studio.
Since I don’t have direct teaching experience, I’d love to hear from anyone who has:
– Opened a Pilates
– Transitioned into this industry from a completely different career
– Or just has thoughts on the main challenges to expect
Some of my biggest questions right now are:
• Is it realistic to run a studio without teaching myself (just hiring instructors)?
• Would you recommend starting small (mat Pilates only) or investing in Reformers from the beginning?
• What were your biggest challenges in the first year?
All insights, experiences, and even hard truths are very welcome 🙏
