How to fit overdrived guitar playing power chords into indie mix?

Hi!

I love playing the OG punk rock type style - verses classic chords, choruses overdrive power chords. I just love it.

The problem is making a decent mix - if i double track the driven parts and pan them left and right, its so hard to mix them in since it takes out a lot of spectrum and dynamic range. I just cant compose anything interesting since the choruses are killed by this. But i love the kick it provides.

Any tips? Am i going overboard with the drive?
