I'm confused about the Sean Penn character in OBAA

I love this character but at the same time I don't understand him if that makes sense. He says that he loves (his word tbh) black women and even has unprotected sex with one but then he tries to kill his black daughter. If he loves black women and his daughter is black why would be kill her. Also he joins this white supremacy group even though he loves black women like why would be join that group if he doesn't believe in that at all. Also why would be spend so much time and energy trying to find his black daughter like that's what gets him killed by the white group if he just left her alone they never would of found out he had a black daughter and he would of lived imho
