want weapon and armor quality in your campaign?
i have made nearly 300 items to bring weapon and armor quality to dnd beyond, each item explains it function in its description.
what this does is it adds durability to your armor and weapons.
for armor: when you are critically hit, depending on the damage type your armor will lose durability and negate the double damage of the critical hit, when the armor loses its durability it will reduce the provided AC
for weapons: when you critically miss, depending on the quality it will add a damage die to the damage roll.
when you critically miss, your weapon will lose a durability.
when your weapon has no durability left, it breaks.
this is easy to keep track of because dndbeyond allows items to have use ticks and its only something that needs to be thought about when a critical roll happens.
I use this in conjunction with another house rule that allows for attacks of opportunity to be triggered as a reaction when a melee attack against them is <=10 which gives players more to do outside their turn and makes combat more interesting without slowing it down. (if attacker rolled a 1, AOO with advantage)
another house rule is if you have proficiency with a weapon, when attacked as a reaction you can parry which makes the attacker have disadvantage at the cost to 1 durability to your weapon if they miss.
