Politicians are Doing Very Little
Farage is on a winning streak, because our other politicians are not fixing the root cause. Yes, there are a lot of external factors for the pie getting smaller - Trump, AI bubble, the global economy, etc., etc. But if the PM and other politicians of the UK cannot do anything to make things better in the UK, then they are also a part of the problem.
Electricity cost can still be dictated by gas price - even if gas is used for just a miniscule part of the production. Why is this policy not changed? Why can't they get rid of the ridiculous standing charges? Bringing down energy costs will (IMHO) massively help in reigning in the inflation.
Why are we still not building massive high risers to ease the housing crisis? Change the screwed up leasehold laws, and make it mandatory that any new flat owner automatically becomes a percentage owner of the apartment block's freehold. And build these things to the sky on war footing.
Undertake massive infrastructure projects to get the economy flowing in the right direction. Start borrowing to build new "things" that appreciate in value (borrowing laws and self imposed limits will have to go).
Right now the UK economy is increasingly looking like the pre WW II economy that paved the way for the far right growth. The environment is ripe for anti-immigrant (legal or illegal - it makes no difference to certain people) emotions - and it is being thoroughly exploited. It doesn't matter that legal immigrants add to the country's economy. This is true for student migrants too. A lot of the universities are staying afloat due to the money those migrants bring in. This is the exact reason why the Tories didn't stop/decrease student immigration. Boats and illegal immigrants are a (again IMHO) very miniscule part of the whole problem. Targeting them would only earn brownie points and not fix anything. If anything, the PM, instead of playing in to Farage's hands with "one in one out" and "digital ids" should be fighting the misinformation and be ridiculing Farage. He must concentrate on making the pie larger.
At least this is what I think. I could, of course, be very wrong. So, I am very much interested in being corrected if any of you have valid reasons as to why policy changes on electricity, apartments, infrastructure spending, and misinformation wouldn't work.
Right now, the only thing that the politicians are doing is to play by Farage's rules. It's high time that the rules are changed and the game that Farage plays no longer matters.
