I'm scared for my future
I'm currently in college 1st year, taking nursing in the Philippines. I am aware of the emotional, mental, physical challenges in nursing school and in the job itself, and it makes me question: am I making the right choice?
Like many Filipinos, I have chosen this path for the opportunity to go abroad. I desperately want to, though I do not want to sacrifice so much of myself.
Ive heard stories of burnout, mistreatment, and regret among nurses. But on the other side of the coin, I'm told that some nurses are having it easy, working minimal hours and not having to do so much work (they're probably refering to other jobs besides bedside I'm assuming). My friends and relatives all mention that one successful Filipino nurse they know who's now in London, new Zealand, new York, who's happy and carefree because of their job.
I don't know how to put into words how much I don't want to go through the horrible sides orf nursing, yet I'm tied to the dream of leaving the Philippines. If there's a way for me to go abroad without taking this route, I plan to shift course while it's early. I've considered OT, but there isn't a lot of information of OT Filipino's, much more those who were able to find jobs outside the country.
Tell me anything you think will help. Ill accept anything at this point.
Please help me. I don't want to regret working as a nurse in the future, nor do I want to resent myself for giving up nursing school too soon.
