Wondering if anyone can interpret an usually vivid nightmare I had?

Nightmare

Not really sure where to start so I'll just lay out the setting.

I was in a small village in Africa (which I've never been to) in cramped mud huts that lined each other with small alleys in-between them. There was no explanation as to why I was there, and it was dark constantly.

I was told that at night, these freakishly tall humanoid beings with masks would appear and would try to steal your voice before killing you. In order to keep them at bay, the villagers used clay whistles that looked more like lumps of clay with random holes protruding from it. They also had these large sort of lion dogs with masks that would chase away the beings/monsters.

During the night, the dogs became alerted to the beings trying to enter the house I was in and they began chasing them away. The villagers began leaving their homes and blowing on the whistles. Every time they would use the whistles, the monsters would run away but come back shortly after. At some point in the night, a woman gave me one of these whistles as the monsters kept coming.

I remember sitting in a dark room with a fire as the villagers chased away the Masked monsters with the dogs and I was holding onto the whistle the woman had given me. I remember hearing one of the monsters enter the house and bend down to get through the door way. It was eerily human, but extremely thin and at least 10 foot tall, with a large mask fringed with some material. I sat there petrified clinging onto the whistle before blowing it, and the monster recoiled leaving the house.

This continued throughout the dream with the intensity and fear increasing. More and more of them tried to get into the house, crawling through the windows and doorways.

At some point I was almost taken and that is when I woke up.

I've rarely had such vivid nightmares and wonder if anyone is experienced in interpreting them.

Thanks lol.
