Some praise for the unsung heroes of Sky Cards
I've started playing Sky Cards a few weeks ago. Right before "The Doom" happened. Since then my interest and knowledge of worldwide aviation has risen significantly.
Although the developers are trying to push us into the battles, and onto FR24, for most of us this is still a collection game. Grinding and looking to complete all the in-game and personal goals. One such goal would be to unlock all the airports. A daunting task, since they are strewn across the globe! Most international and larger regional airports are fairly easy, as they have regular commercial flights coming in. The small islands and Antarctica are more tricky, but still doable. However, when you zoom in, on the areas between the larger airports, you can quickly spot the bane of the Sky Cards Airport Collector. The local non-commercial airfields. Too small for the fancy commercial jet-liners, but big enough to be put on the map. These little Greyed Out Bastards, mock us, as they spit out Cessna after Cessna, daring us to click them all, only to find out that none bothered to file a flightplan or adjust the transponder to send out a destination. Day after day they lure us towards them with their pied Pipers, only to lead us to dissapointment. Even the Cirrus pilots refuse to take it seriously and just hop in, fly out and back again, while we stare at them, as they land on the Greyed Out, only revealing their destination after they are firmy "on the ground". Sons of Beeches! All of them! Or at least... Many of them...
Because every now and then, a hero appears. Diamonds in the rough! Wether they be trainees, practicing entering flight plans, or just pilots with the tism, they are our heroes! They grant us that itty bit of joy and relief when we tap their little icons and the Destination field is filled and adorned with that one precious word: "new".
Thank you, brave sky conquerors! Not only have you found the joy of flight for yourself, but you also help us, mere land dwellers, one step closer to the joy of completion!
My eternal gratitude and respect.
