Taken off Pre charge bail and released under investigation

Arrested in April, placed on pre charge bail same day and today was meant to be my bail date and to go into station but called the investigating officer and I’ve been released under investigation. I know this has no time limit but is it worth asking a solicitor to try and get the case dropped as it is clear they don’t have enough evidence to charge me and they are very unlikely to unearth new evidence?
