Curated Set of Milestones and Awards
Following on from my earlier post, I have created a set of suggested alternative milestones and awards for the Tharsis map. My group mostly plays base + corp era + prelude with drafting but is on hold for a few weeks so haven't tried yet. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this so thanks in advance for your feedback.
Milestones
- Mayor (3 cities)
- Terraformer (29 TR)
- Researcher (4 science tags)
- Tycoon (10 blue and green cards combined)
- Briber (no prerequisite but pay 12MC extra to claim - i.e. 20MC total)
Awards
- Banker (most MC prod)
- Electrician (most power tags)
- Highlander (most tiles *not* adjacent to ocean)
- Manufacturer (highest production of steel and heat combined)
- Space Baron (most space tags)
I've kept some milestones/awards from the original set to preserve the flavour of the map (but used the 29TR Terrarformer variant).
I've included Researcher as something for the engine player instead of Planner. Briber is in just because I like it as a milestone. It introduces a tension when 2 other milestones have gone and it asks the player a simple question - are you willing to spend money you could be using to develop your engine for a pile of points early in the game? Tycoon is just a solid milestone. Everybody is playing green and blue cards so everybody is competing for it. I don't think it gets claimed much in its original form (requiring 15 cards) but 10 is much more achievable.
Banker stays from the original set because it's very Tharsis. It can be swingy but it's part of the fun. Electrician is included just because power tags need a bit of love. It's an interesting award because power tags tend to get more play in the early and middle game. Passing a power tag in draft late game is usually an easy decision and this maybe makes it a more interesting decision. If you play with Colonies maybe replace this with Contractor? Space Baron is something for the engine player again. The most interesting award is Highlander. Ocean walking is the meta on Tharsis so this challenges this meta, which is what I think a different set of M&As should do.
