Why do American golf fans distract visiting golfers from their shots?

Can the US golfers not win on skill alone? Do they need the crowds to put European golfers off their stroke?

So strange to see people behaving with such poor sportsmanship. We don't see this here and would be thrown out if we behaved like that when people were taking a shot. What am I missing?
