PS5 Pro- How I fixed my WiFi lag for D4.
I felt I had to make this “How-To” post because I was getting frustrated with my lag and finally figured out how to fix it.
Note: This is on a PS5 Pro over WiFi, I don’t know to fix anything else beyond that. Note #2: This worked for me, but may not address any specific problems others might be having. (I’m no expert, just excited to share how I fixed my lag.)
- Turn off PS5, then boot up safe mode. (Press the on/off button on the front of the console and hold the button until you hear a 2nd beep.)
- Update System Software. (It may say up-to-date when you’re in the actual interface settings menu, but it won’t hurt to check while in safe mode.) Even though it said up to date in my interface settings menu, I still wound up downloading a 1.3gb update file.
- Boot up PS5 normally.
- Go to Settings->Network->Settings->Set up Internet Connection.
- While your registered network is highlighted, press the “Options” button on your controller.
- Select “WiFi Frequency Bands” and select the best option available for your WiFi router. Mine was 5ghz.
- Go back to the Network menu and select “Test Internet Connection” to make sure you’re getting a better signal.
I was getting frustrated with my intense lag that I almost deleted the game. (I’m having to stay in temp housing while I’m away from home and the WiFi is not what I’m used to.) My PS5 Pro defaulted to 2.4ghz with <100mgb down and <1mgb up. When I fixed everything, it went to 384/79. Maybe the only thing I needed to do was change the frequency from the start, but who knows; it works now.
If this works for you, then I’m glad I could help. If not, then I have no clue.
