Jiufen and Shifen Itinerary

Hi! We're travelling to Taiwan this October for one week. For the first day, Taipei muna. Second and third day, Jiufen and Shifen (overnight in Jiufen). Balik to Taipei thereafter.

My question is, which itinerary is less hassle in terms of cost, travel time, and mode of transpo: (1) Ximending to Shifen, Shifen to Jiufen (overnight), then Jiufen to Ximending; or (2) Ximending to Jiufen (overnight), Jiufen to Shifen the following day, then Shifen to Ximending.

If may better itinerary, please let me know.
