LCS Mega packs on release day

Discussion

New LCS by me offering 70% cash on cards and has every pack from SV available (prices range from $6.50 for Journey Together to > $10 for PF and 151. Prismatic packs for $9 have me wondering if they weighed them lol).

I had some cards to sell and listed them on eBay first before I brought them in. Some of them they priced well lower (just sold a card on eBay for $125 they had marked as $70’market value) but some of my raw cards were fairly priced and I knew I didn’t want to sell sub $70 cards on eBay and mess with shipping etc.

Turned in some cards and negotiated for 2 packs of Mega Evolutions 1 for each of my boys and a single $20 raw card I wanted to give them in the future.

My boys hit nothing lol but we got them on release day and they were pumped and didn’t have to spend their own money! Packs were unfortunately $10/each but part of my trade in negotiation for cash too.

We went back later that night for my boys to search through singles and had a riot there for over an hour and tons of singles to choose from for well under $10 each many IRs in the $3-6 range.

Moral of our story: we still enjoy the hobby without having to scorch the earth for a few at MSRP. I don’t condone all LCS behaviors but our interaction with the new store has been great and I am more than willing to pay a little extra to see them in business. I know this won’t resonate with everyone but we love they have packs for under $10 readily available and hundreds of singles to buy. My boys and I had a nice hobby day we hadn’t enjoyed since 2024 and PRE is the only set we haven’t opened a pack of yet. To me part of the hobby is balancing opening packs and buying singles, favoring the latter. All the cards we have are worth way more than they were a year ago, so it balances out. I guess my perspective is you can’t have a crazy hot market and also readily available product at MSRP, so we will continue to enjoy what’s available to buy without wasting a bunch of time to have searches come up empty.

Happy Sunday y’all
