dive into fintech careers after MBA | Masters Union ’24 alum
sabka focus yaha CAT, GMAT, admit… but rarely anyone talks about after MBA life. like, careers ke options kya hain beyond consulting / i-banking / FMCG? i’ve been in FinTech since graduating last year. so lemme share something, what fintech careers actually look like, pros/cons, and if it’s worth it.
what’s fintech work like?
it’s not just “apps for payments” lol. roles broadly split into
-product & growth - designing new credit cards, UPI features, wealth apps
-strategy & partnerships - working with banks, RBI, NBFCs, APIs.
-risk & ops - fraud detection, credit scoring, compliance.
-analytics - customer behavior, repayment patterns, funnels.
what you’ll actually do
- draft GTM for a new lending product - pricing, CAC, funnel.
- analyze why defaults spiked in one state.
- figure out RBI circulars + compliance (headache but also fun).
- partner with startups/banks for API integrations.
basically finance + tech + policy all in one.
pro
- india = largest real-time payments market globally. crazy scale.
- pay is decent vs traditional BFSI.
- you’re not just making PPTs - jo kaam karte ho uska impact dikhta hai in real time.
- mix of finance + tech + consumer behavior.
cons
- ek RBI circular and poora business model flip. volatility is real.
- competition insane, 100s of players, only few winners.
- workload spikes during launches / compliance deadlines.
- career ladder not clear → depends if you’re in unicorn vs bank-backed vs early-stage. im at an unicorn.
if u think banking/consulting is tooo stiff then you'll like fintech. i was in a small startup before, super unstructured, wearing 5 hats at once. fintech felt like a good middle ground: still fast-paced, but with more structure + bigger scale. abhi tak 10+ months ho gaye, and honestly… it’s been insane.
