Synth tracking approach - need advice
Hey guys... the photo above is my synth setup. On the bottom left I run everything through a Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Mixer. I play live and improvise a lot. So I want to record the synths that way.
I'm trying to figure out the best approach to tracking. My instinct is that since I'm mixing live, I should just run everything through the mixer stereo, and just send a stereo out to Logic. But then the sounds are baked in, and I can't mix individual instruments afterwards.
If I bypass the mixer and send everything into logic then I need to live-mix in logic and that's not part of my normal flow.
One thing I've thought about is getting a control surface, but that breaks my flow as well because now I'm playing everything back through my monitors instead of my live rig. I'm recording electric guitar at the same time, so this wouldn't really work.
I feel like everytime I try to think about a more advanced way to do it, I keep coming back to my first approach. I'm curious about approaches others have taken on the synth here.
Thanks everyone.
