Honest and minor criticism of the second game:
I FUCΚΙΝG LOVE DD2
With that out of the way, I want to examine a couple of small things that I believe are a downgrade. Everyone talks about the armour system being more simplified, or the lack of Strider and Mystic Knight or whatever, but these can be argued against. It is, in reality, a matter of preference. However I want to mention a couple of things that I believe are more on the objective side, like treasure chest content and ferrystones' capabilities.
So, let's start with the important one: ferrystones.
I first place DDDA in 2017 or 2018, so I have never experienced the original game. I always had the luxury of the Eternal Ferrystone, but I also did runs where Ieft it in my storage and only used regular ferrystones. That was fun, as there was a lore focused mechanics that didn't involve just skipping time while my characters presumably walk for kilometers during a loading screen. Besides, apart from the fact that I'm one of those disgusting and repulsive individuals who prefer the lack of modern fast travel, I believe the ferrystone system was very generous, as it allowed one to travel out of combat, since it is an actual magical item existing in the world of Dragon's Dogma.
In the second game, however, you cannot use it during combat, making it practically just a hindrance of traveling, instead of an interesting mechanic. I still like the idea of preparing for a journy and making sure I know my way back, but I admit I feel a bit.. cheated in DD2.
And then we have the treasure chests in the second game, which are quite underwhelming, to say the least. You get random curatives and fruit from them, and rarely any equipment. Yeah, that was a shorter one, but a nitpick nonetheless!
