Can Single Sided Deafness Hold you back from working?

I am a student . I am deaf in one ear. I can easily communicate with my family and friends the only problem is that when someone whispers in my right ear or tells me something i cannot hear them properly . Will this restrict me from working ( maybe in engineering fields) . And If i get hearing aids it will be good ?
