Sotfs vs vanilla

Sup yall, I played every fromsoft soulslike, currently finishing dark souls and Bloodborne dlc, i wanted to play ds2 also, I heard it gets really overhated for what it is, I was wondering if I should play sotfs or the original version since, unlike the other fromsoft games which I kinda spoiled myself, I know basically nothing about ds2
