Walmarts Malpractice
I recently had a really frustrating experience with Walmart that I believe goes beyond bad customer service and into consumer rights violations.
Location: New Jersey
On August 25, 2025, I bought an LG 27-inch monitor (model 27MS540W). By September 26 (only 31 days later), the screen developed a vertical line defect across it, making it unusable. I went back to the Toms River, NJ Walmart store with my receipt. The customer service desk refused the return, citing their 30-day receipt policy, and told me the system would not allow an override. I asked to escalate to a manager but was never connected.
Instead, I was confronted by a Market Asset Protection Operations Lead who told me, “I work here and you don’t, call the cops if you want to” — another employee sarcastically added, “okay, bye” as I was leaving. I later contacted Walmart Customer Care, and a rep named Noor promised escalation and a callback that never came.
So I’m stuck with a defective product after only 31 days, no resolution, no refund, no replacement, not even store credit.
From what I’ve read, New Jersey’s implied warranty of merchantability and the federal Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act both say consumers are entitled to remedies for defective goods within a reasonable time, regardless of store policy. A 30-day receipt policy doesn’t erase those rights.
Looking at Google Maps and other sites, I also see lots of other customer reviews describing defective products being sold, returns being refused, used items being resold as new, and customer service stonewalling. This feels like more than just one bad encounter.
What options do I have here? Should I file a complaint with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs? Is this something that could become a bigger consumer protection or class action issue if multiple people have the same problem? I’m not impatient, I just want to know if there’s anything I can do legally to hold Walmart accountable and recover my money.
Thanks in advance.
