Journey so far

Wanted to give a detailed update on my recovery now that I’m feeling better!

Day 0 (surgery day)- was MISERABLE because I was already sick. I had some sort of a head cold/sinus thing going on that was brutal due to not be able to take any medicine and eventually not being able to even drink water. I tested negative for covid and flu and wasn’t running a fever so I was not about to prolong this and reschedule. After the surgery I felt an immediate different and no longer felt like I had a cold (making because my body was focused on other things??) I did take Sudafed to make sure that my cold symptoms weren’t making anything worse. I ate a slushee, lots of ice, and some mashed potatoes today. Highest pain was a 6/10 immediately after the surgery. The rest of the day was maybe a 3/10

Day 1 and 2- was struggling. Couldn’t talk. Kept on my meds consistently, could barely drink water and eat my popsicles. Got out for a little bit to pick up more meds and get some fresh air. Tried to drink a frappe and that was not smart. Pain was a 5/10

Day 3 and 4- Hell. Still can’t talk. Continued to not eat and live off popsicles. I was so hungry and did a horrible job at drinking water. I kept setting timers to try and make myself drink, but it hurt so bad and I was being a huge baby about it. I ate a few bites of soggy cereal and tiny noodles. Pain 5/10 but the hunger made it worse.

Day 5 and 6- thought maybe it would be going down hill from here but I was wrong still struggled to drink water but I forced it and that helped. My scabs were starting to fall off which was not fun but was kinda satisfying because I knew it meant I was healing. The more water I drank the better. Pain 6/10-8/10

Days 7 and 8- I anticipated being able to eat more these days based on what I read from everyone else. Tbh I probably would’ve healed faster if I drank more water…. I drank some ensure which was a good idea! Starting weaning off the pain meds and switching to Tylenol. Tried to drink a smoothie and that didn’t work but I did manage to force some mashed potatoes and Panera Mac n cheese. Oh and I started talking a little bit! Pain 4/10.

Days 9 and 10- TURNING A CORNER !!!! The pain was down, I stopped taking meds constantly and switched to as needed. I ate a lot of soup, a baked potato, and some bread. Pain was up and down and I just felt super tired. Tried to drink a smoothie again but it burned terribly so I will not be making that mistake again. AND I CAN TALK !!!!

The best advice I can give is to sleep, FORCE YOURSELF TO DRINK WATER !!!!!, use a humidifier, drink some ensure
