Are dealerships open to this kind of transaction: trading in a more expensive car for a cheaper one, and paying the seller any delta?

Assuming a person has a desirable car that a dealership specializing in that mark could re-sell, could it be traded in for something less expensive, and the dealer pay the seller the difference? I'm talking about a 6 figure vehicle. Just curious if dealers would entertain this kind of transaction if the trade-in was something they knew would sell.
