Recovering from Amazon's credit card roulette
Last year I ordered software on Amazon for a friend who didn't want her own Amazon account because she was afraid of getting unwanted charges. She gave me her credit card to use. It turns out that every time I ordered toothpaste after that it went to her card. Why toothpaste? I have no idea. So she canceled her card and disputed the three charges with her bank because she didn't recognize them. I discovered the problem when a purchase a couple of days ago was declined. When I looked at the card used, I realized what happened.
My friend sounds understanding, but I think she must be really annoyed, because she has an extreme dislike of online shopping.
I have since removed the card from my account and turned off the back-up purchase method setting.
I texted with customer service and they said they would fix it, no problem. They said they would change the card on the order so it would refund the wrong card and charge my card. As far as I can tell nothing happened.
A day later I requested a call from customer service and told the person I want to pay for the orders with my own card. She said there was nothing she could do; I had to wait for Amazon to contact me about it.
I'd prefer to fix this now rather than wait. Is there another level of customer service that can deal with this? I started using Amazon in 1998 and I became a Prime member as soon as Prime started. I really don't want to get banned.
