Domestic Abuse Inquiry

If a couple got into a domestic dispute, police were called, photos taken (nothing major, just scrapes), and statements given, can the victim of the abuse recant their statement? If they do, what will that look like for the other party? Will/can charges be dropped or could it possibly be take off their record? Location: Michigan
