Diplomatic Victory (WIP concept)

VII - Discussion

A Diplomatic Victory is coming, right? It’s only a matter of time.

So, I cobble together an idea for how it can work within existing parameters of the game. My ideas pull a bit from Economic and Cultural gameplay as well as a bit from my rework of the Culture Victory.

Politeia—Antiquity Age Legacy

Goal: Become Suzerain of 7 City-States.

Pretty straightforward idea and nothing surprising. While it might not be considered easy in the past, as more AI compete for these Independent Powers, it might be as tough as the Cultural Legacy.

World Interchange—Exploration Age Legacy

Goal: Initiate 12 Trade Routes with Distant Land Settlements.

(Alt Goal: Accrue 20 points, Gain 1 point for establishing a trade Route, double if sent to a settlement in distant lands)

Based on the Columbia Exchange and the various cultural exchanges during this time. I included an alternative because I know people feel that Legacy Paths “force” you to interact with things you wish you could ignore. I prefer the first option but would allow for a chunk of Civs to have their own unique way to accrue points similar to the alternative provided, like a Venice or any dominant trading power with diplomatic fortitude based on a single continent.

The name is clunky but I didn’t want to use Colombian Exchange.

Grand Opera—Modern Age Legacy

Goal: Acquire 25 Great Works of Music.

Introducing Patronage, a city project that increases in cost and produces a random Great Musician with a variable amount of Great Works.

Opera Houses have one slot for Great Works of Music. Museums can house any Great Work.

Various civics, narrative events, and Wonders will produce a free Great Musician or aid in completing projects or provide slots for Great Works.

Upon Completion, receive a Corps Diplomatique which must travel to Capitals and use a charge creating an Embassy at great Influence cost (scales based on relationship)

Didn’t know that the French Empire made diplomatic overtures or whatnot at the opera. Opera Houses did have an Influence yield after all.

I had an idea for reworking the Cultural Legacy Path for Modern, but chucked a portion of that into this. What a cool way to show that music ties us together!

I didn’t want to make a Wonder as it would be too similar to Cultural nor did I want to accrue points like Railroad Tycoon as it would be too similar to Economic.

As for Legacy Options, they’d largely stay shared with Cultural, but an extra option adding Happiness to different things or a boost to building Influence Buildings.

What do you think? Too weird? Rather something else and build the League of Nations (or the UN if you want a more boring building)?
