Should I go to New Vegas on my own or wait for the story?

Made a post the other day talking about how it’s my first time playing New Vegas. Now I really wanna see this damn city but the story hasn’t naturally brought me there yet. Do I just go there now? Will it even be possible? Or should I just let the game progress naturally and take me there, that’s my plan as of right now. I just really wanna see it😂
