Geographical distance between message sender and recipient

Sorry it this has been asked before - at least I couldn't find the answer here.

My understanding is that the delivery of messages depends on the configured max hops (limited to 7) and the LoS distance between the the current hop and the next one. So should one assume that - depending on mesh coverage - a message could travel a couple hundred km?

Let's say if there's realistic chance to send a message from Berlin to the german coast.
