[M4F] Secret shame, comparison to other girls, and dangling lips
"....beef curtains!"
It's such a gross, dismissive, hurtful phrase that's thrown around for humor. I picture a group of people reacting to someone dropping that phrase - a mix of men and women laughing and rolling their eyes....and I wonder how many of those women feel a crushing wave of secret shame in that moment. Smiling, acting casual, while inside they feel their stomach drop, knowing that there's no way anyone could tell what they look like down there but sensing somehow that everyone knows....
It's a woman's most intimate place, and so many women have been conditioned by society to feel ashamed of theirs because it's not a neat, tidy slit. And if she doesn't like the way it looks, there's nothing short of surgery she can do - she's "cursed" purely by chance and genetics. A girl can be conventionally attractive, cute, confident, and yet harbor such crushing insecurity about her vulva.
I've been thinking on this topic lately after seeing a specific picture and remembering a quote from Howard Stern, and I'd like to explore it in discussion. It really, really isn't fair that a woman can feel such existential shame for something that's not her fault and beyond her control.
If reading this post has piqued your curiosity or send a wave of shame rushing through you, send me a chat and let's talk through it...
