Buyer wants to move closing date up 5 days since he'll be on a ship
So my florida home is scheduled to close on October 10. The buyer called today and wants to move the closing to the 7th, as he is a boat captain and his boss told him he needs to ship out on Wednesday the 8th. I guess he doesn't have a choice.
Obviously, I was planning on getting all my stuff out during the 6th to the 8th, and cleaning up the home for closing on the 9th. I have already scheduled utility turnoff for the 10th, scheduled movers for the 8th to help move stuff to storage unit (rental starts the 8th), and scheduled hotel stays for my road trip up north (moving to NY).
I am about 80% packed up, and if I hustle, and move everything around, I might be able to get it all done by this weekend. But I am already very stressed out and overwhelmed (because moving sucks and I'm a single mom doing this alone) and this just might put me over the edge. I am a scheduled and organized person, and I had everything scheduled and laid out for the final week, so changing it all up would be more stress.
My broker suggested the buyer get a power of attorney to sign for him on the 10th, and he doesn't want to do that (I am talking to broker this evening and will ask her why; she's left me a message earlier). She suggested that I sign and close on the 7th and request 2 more days in the house to finish getting things out and cleaning up. So during the final walk through on the 7th, the house will not be "ready"--there will still be some boxes, and I will not have done a final clean.
Also, I worry that this might be a little....unusual? To still have the keys and go in and out when the house is no longer mine? He won't be around (as I said, he's shipping out) but is this semi-normal to do? Any other ideas? I feel like the burden should be on the buyer to figure this out because he's the one who needs the change, but I also want to be reasonable to the buyer.
