Has anyone had bad experiences with their campus advisors?

posting this just to rant & see if other people had similar experiences

has anyone felt like their campus advisors are not really helpful? i had one advisor who i was working with for a few months give me consistently positive feedback to a point where i felt super confident, but after i shared my statements with other applications, i then got a bunch of constructive criticism. they were very helpful but i was surprised my advisor was telling me my drafts were basically perfect when they clearly weren’t.

today i met with a different advisor to get an extra set of eyes on my application and she went in the complete opposite direction. when we met, it was clear that she had not read the drafts i emailed her and even after asking her to read it first, she said that she already read through my application (she didn’t, because she opened my email for the first time in front of me). our meeting was only 30min but she spent the first 10min showing me “bad examples” of fake student drafts and talking about her own teaching experience. when we finally got to my answers, she literally read it aloud line by line, stopping after every sentence in my draft to criticize it and say well you didn’t show concrete examples or you didn’t elaborate on this and then go on a rant about bad writing. i would tell her that i definitely did do those things, just later on in the essay or literally in the next sentence. when i asked her to at least attempt to read through my entire answer before giving criticism, she cut me off and said it was not her approach.

i felt like the meeting was a lot of her just ranting about “bad writing” and jumping to conclusions saying that i did not explain or give examples even though i clearly did. at the end she told me that my application still had gaping holes and needed a lot of work, but we got through maybe 4 sentences of my application because she insisted on stopping after every sentence. just yesterday, my other advisor told me she had 0 feedback left for me and that i was in a great place to submit. so i’m not sure who to believe and honestly i got better feedback from other applicants than i did from my advisors.
