At 25, is it worth pursuing El Karoui/M2MO or should I go for Dauphine 203 to avoid losing time?

Hello everyone,

I’m 25 and currently finishing my industrial engineering apprenticeship degree (will graduate in September 2026). I want to move into quantitative finance, ideally in a risk quant career.

My plan was to do a Master 1 in applied mathematics and then apply either to the DEA El Karoui or M2MO. I know these programs are very selective, but I’m ready to work hard to maximize my chances.

However, I also have doubts: at my age, I don’t want to “lose time” in a long academic path if it doesn’t pay off quickly. That’s why I’m wondering whether Dauphine 203 might be a better and more pragmatic choice, since it could lead me faster to opportunities in risk and asset management.

So my question is: given my background and age, is the pure quant path (El Karoui/M2MO) still worth it, or would Dauphine 203 be a safer and more efficient option?
