Question about god's curse on david

In the bible it says that Nathan tells David that because of his sin with Bathsheba god will curse him by rising evil within David's house later his son amnon rapes his sister Tamar and then Absalom kills amnon as a form of divine judgment only for him to cause a civil war leading to his own death as a form of divine judgment my question is was gods curse literal or was it letting the consequences of David actions unfold because amnon and Absalom did what they did out of there own free will so is it a curse also if god just let it happen as consequences of David's actions then did god let Tamar get raped just to punish David this has been really worrying me about my faith and I like to get an answer thank you
