My Sister-In-Law Secretly Switched My Wedding Cake, And Thought I Wouldn’t Notice

Personal Drama

So this happened earlier this year, and I’ve only just cooled down enough to talk about it without steam coming out of my ears.

My husband and I had a small but carefully planned wedding. We didn’t have a huge budget, but we splurged on one thing: the cake. I’m lactose intolerant, and we found this amazing bakery that made a dairy-free raspberry and lemon tiered cake that looked like a Pinterest dream and tasted even better.

Enter my sister-in-law. Let’s call her SIL. She’s a self-taught baker and runs a very small home baking page. She offered to bake our cake as her gift, but I gently declined, saying we had already booked a professional. I even offered to credit her for the dessert table instead (cookies, mini tarts which she did end up making and were great, to be fair).

Fast forward to the wedding day. The cake looks almost like what I ordered. I chalk it up to small presentation differences. We do the whole cake-cutting thing, guests start eating, and within 10 minutes, I’m running to the bathroom. I’ll spare you the details, but my lactose intolerance kicked in hard.

Turns out, SIL secretly replaced the cake. S wanted to surprise me and thought I’d love her version better. She even admitted she used real butter and cream cheese frosting because a little wouldn’t hurt.

I was horrified. Not just because I got violently sick on my wedding day, but because she didn’t think she did anything wrong. Her apology? Sorry you didn’t like it, everyone else thought it tasted amazing.

What would you have done? I haven’t spoken to her since, and my husband is caught in the middle. Some family members think I overreacted , but it was my wedding day and my body. I'm honestly still furious.
