Painting Hardboard/Masonite with Board and Batten Trim

Advice Wanted

Has anyone primed and painted hardboard panels that can give me some advice? I have ~300 sqft of board and batten with hardboard backers that I initially planned to spray both primer and paint. However, research lead me to Zinssers B-I-N Shellac Primer and it doesnt seem like a good idea to put that in a sprayer due to fumes and clogging it up.

My questions are: 1) Is there an alternative primer that will work just as well? Preferably oil based over shellac based so I can spray. 2) Can I achieve the same quality of top coat if I decide to brush/roll the primer and sand to 220 while then spraying the paint afterwards? Thanks!

*Additional info:

Everything is/will be sanded to 220 after caulking and filling. All hardboard panels are already 220 before I even installed them

Sprayer is a Graco Magnum 257025

I plan to use Sherwin Williams Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint with a satin finish - open to any other suggestions tho

This pic is essentially the finish level I am trying to achieve
