Signed up for self defense classes
Hi, after many years of thinking on learning martial arts, I finally emrolled in some self defense clases. The place Im going to seems great, and they teach self defense, Kick Boxing, Boxing, and other martial arts.
I just went in and when asked what I wnated to learn I said self defense, i guess I didnt want to initially commit to a specific martial art since I dont know any.
After 2 weeks of training, just 6 times, I had some training in the ring. I was boxing, mainly it was 1 round of defense, then 1 round of offense. Whe went for about 8 rounds total.
I felt like a punching bag, although that didnt discourage me. My partner wasnt hitting me hard and me paused constantly to explain me what I was doing wrong.
Even thought i was explained what to do, it was like my mind wouldnt process that someone is throwing a punch at me and I couldn't seem to doge the punches coming at me. He was going 50% of his normal speed .. at leats thats what he said.. and I still could see were the lunches are coming from.
Im 36yrs old and just want to learn how to defend myself. I have done martial arts before, but its just been like 2 or 3 months at a tome, and I tried this just like 3 times in my life. Last time it was 6 years ago.
Can someone please share if the lack of reflex or zero reflex is normal and how did you made progress? Im assuming I will develop this with time. I can say that I havent workout in years and im enjoying this training now that i have time and money to pay it.
