Is it normal to say “like” this often in a sentence in the US?

I notice especially the women use the word “like” in place of almost any other word and it is honestly driving me insane. Can someone help me understand why and how this is happening? It’s not even like it’s one person’s particular speech issue, it is almost every woman on the show.

I first noticed with Anna, and now I can’t I hear the constant stream of “like like like”.
